HEALTH MENTAL CHALLENGES “… young people should avoid substance abuse.. .” Ghangha Jamin G. Medical Laboratory Scientist, Ghangha Jamin G. It is October 10, 2018 on World Mental Health Day and celebrated under the theme, “ Young people and mental health in changing world.”  I read through the website of  WHO and found this, " Adolescence and the early years of adulthood are a time of life when many changes occur, for example changing schools, leaving home, and starting university or a new job. For many, these are exciting times. They can also be times of stress and apprehension however. In some cases, if not recognized and managed, these feelings can lead to mental illness. The expanding use of online technologies, while undoubtedly bringing many benefits, can also bring additional pressures, as connectivity to virtual networks at any time of the day and night grows "  http://www.who.int/mental_health/world-mental-health-day/2018/en/ After reading these

EDUCATION Welisane Foundation outlines a five-year strategic plan of ‘’ONE GIRL ONE DREAM’’ back to school project for 2018/2019 school year. The One Girl One Dream project started this school year and spans to 2023. It seeks to support and encourage the education of the girl child. In the next five years, it intends to reach out to 1000 children in primary school, 100 students in secondary school and some 15 students in Higher institutions of learning across Cameroon especially those of the English faction of ages 5-21. This is intended to help the underprivileged gain access to education and in a bit to reduce the number of challenges the young girl faces in present day Cameroon. It also seeks to foster Sustainable Development Goal four (4) on quality education.     This is to many a stitch in time because of its proper timing and considering it is coming at a time when poverty has caused many to abandon their dreams, traditional values too causing many to abandon stud

Social Ordeals of Persons With Disabilities in the 21st century Cameroon   Child living with disabilities(CBCHS)   Stories about the poor treatment of Persons living with Disabilities (PWDs) keep making headlines in Cameroon.  I was taken aback on August 4, 2018 by an emotional letter addressed to Mimi Mefo Info by a group of visually impaired students voicing challenges they faced during the last public exam organized by Cameroon General Certificate of Education (GCE) Board for 2017/2018 academic year in Cameroon. According to the students, they were discriminated upon and had to sit many papers different from those of their ‘sighted’ peers. “This accounted for our failure at this year’s GCE exam” They lament, they claim that the GCE scripts for the visually impaired candidates for the 2017/2018 session were marked using the wrong marking guides for questions earlier changed; given that the communique annulling ‘A/Level’ Literature Paper 3, calling for repeat ses

SPORTS AFCON   who is after Cameroon? Ahmed Sobier, former Egyptian soccer goalkeeper who has become a sports pundit says Cameroon’s hosting rights of the 2019 AFCON have been stripped off. A Ghanaian soccer online platform broke the news Monday July 30, 2018 and says this is based on an independent inquiry report that has been summitted to CAF and which shows Cameroon does not have the needed infrastructure to host the “new AFCON” with 24 teams.   Many are yet to come to terms with this information given that CAF will decide on the fate of Cameroon in September which is still enough time for Cameroon to put things in place and considering Prime Minister, Philemon Yang’s last observation when he went visiting sports infrastructure to host the groups in the various regions recently. He was visibly satisfied with steady growth in the rate execution of the projects. Also, many Cameroonians doubt the information because Sobier is no right source to give out information co

My visit to BOYO: an affected war zone First stop at Belo  I took to Fundong, capital of boyo last Wednesday, July 18, 2018 n could not reach home same day because of a 3-day ghost town.  On arriving mobile nkwen, cars could only reach Mbingo that morning. This made me to postpone my journey next day, Thursday. Given that roads to fundong, were still blocked, we boarded a taxi for Njinikom at cost of 2000 FRS per person (distance normally costs ~ 1300) We took off and had first check by military at bambui as usual n it was same ritual of ID checking. The scen ario started changing when we drove in to Boyo. From mbingo to belo one could notice something is wrong somewhere. Along the road, all we could see were burnt cars and bikes, then, houses. Getting to belo was like entering into a grave yard at 12am; military armed to teeth in groups at belo 3corners and some using balconies of deserted homes to position their guns, ready to shoot. Here, thorough checking was done from ID car
