Cameroon records 7.3 million malaria cases yearly. By Awoh Caleb

T he statistics according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) came under discussion last Tuesday, June 15, 2021 in Yaounde-Cameroon during the Official Launch of the Parliamentarians’ Task Force for malaria resource mobilization in Cameroon organized by  Impact Santé Afrique (ISA) in collaboration with the National Malaria Control Program, NMCP. The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Manaouda Malachie and attended amongst others by the representative of WHO to Cameroon, Dr. Phanuel Habimana; President of Parliamentarians’ Network in charge of issues relating to the population, Development and Public Health, Hon. Pauline Ndoumou; Law makers from the Lower and Upper Houses of Parliament.  The launch was coming against a backdrop of a continuous rise in malaria mobility and mortality rates in Cameroon. Society Kanuri cry out to Government Kanuri people last Saturday July 13 th , 2019, meeting at Toungou Hotel, in Yaoundé-Cameroon called on the Government and stakeholders to sensitize the populations and the security forces to stop the stigma against them . SICKLE CELL Voices of sicklers and carriers As part of activities leading up to the commemoration of this year’s sickle cell day on Wednesday June 19, 2019 in Cameroon, Joy to Endure Foundation of Arrey Echi in partnership with Etoug-Ebe Baptist Hospital on Saturday, June 15, 2019 organised a Sickle Cell Disease (SCD ) free screening campaign at Etoug-Ebe Baptist Hospital where over a hundred turned out. SCD free screening at Etoug-Ebe Baptist Hospita  Highlights of the event included educational talks, awareness, sensitization and counseling. Focal persons during the event were Doctor Budzi Michael, a General Practitioner who has taken keen interest in SCD, Arrey Echi who since 2015 has decided to use her experiences to raise awareness and usher in a new dawn for those living with sickle cell. HEALTH Malaria: Hundreds turn out for a sports walk in Yaoundé hundreds march in Yaounde in build-up to the celebration of world malaria day It is a Saturday, April 20, 2019 and 6 A.M in Yaounde, political capital of the Republic of Cameroon. We are at the esplanade of Ministry of Public Health which on the opposite direction shares boundaries with the National Museum of Cameroon. Taxis ply the roads few meters away from the ministry and people; both young and old, from primary schools, secondary and higher institutions of learning stream in.
